FIRE IN THE OKANOGAN
For the past few years my work has addressed my experience with the Northwest landscape. My observations of nature are translated into jewelry.
Fernne Rosenblatt, one of the women in my hiking group has a house in north central Washington which was totally destroyed in the Okanogan Complex wildfire in August of 2015. The neckpiece has a piece of glass from the house. The form is a house in parts - not functional. The metal is left as it was after the heat of the torch.
Fire is a part of nature. In thirty years, the woods will recover. Fire brings tragedy and sometimes death to the humans that are involved. Many of us living in the city, do not really understand the devastation that takes place. My hope is that folks who view this work, will perhaps have a greater awareness of this destruction.
